Grace Wrapped In Thorns

I walk the line between the earth and sky

Like Mary Oliver and her thin membrane

With a grateful happiness bathed in attention

Big eyes, big ears, a scout for the populace, a man of invention

I saw Shakespeare debunking the poet's conceit

Saw Perry hit a homerun in the bottom of the third

I saw Armstrong and Aldrin on the moon that day

Each was a marvel, each one was a first

In Savannah where stories ooze from cobblestones

A woman in marigold wrote of grace wrapped in thorns

Her ink is a trial where proof never ceases

In the wisdom of the Misfit, there's no pleasure but meanness

I saw Shakespeare debunking the poet's conceit

Saw Perry hit a homerun in the bottom of the third

Saw Armstrong and Aldrin on the moon that day

Each was a marvel, each one was a first

Shall I sing of the courageous, persistent prophet

Who suffered for faithfully living out his calling?

Natural inclination versus righteous vocation

Did the One who calls, keep him from falling?

He did, He did, He did

Though the prophet sat alone with God's hand upon him

He did, he did, he did

And the prophet arrived at a place of peace, he said:

“Thy words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart."

“Thy words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart."

Through the discord and the divine, in the hush of nightfall

Jesus speaks from the brokenness, behold

He's made it new, He's made it all

“Thy words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart."

“Thy words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart."

"And the delight of my heart."

"And the delight of my heart."
